I celebrate the onset of the holidays every year at the beginning of December (thought of doing a countdown to xmas this year and got called out on it. So we are starting on Monday the 9th) with a crawl through a dozen Cary Grant movies, so called The Twelve Days of Cary Grant (aka #12dCG). There are many exceptional movies to draw from and it’s an opportunity to indulge in the golden age of the cinema and share a drink with one of its smoothest operators.
Selections for this year’s #12dCG are:
Dec. 9 – Notorious
Dec. 10 – Arsenic and Old Lace
Dec. 11 – Eagle and the Hawk
Dec. 12 – My Favorite Wife
Dec. 13 – Bringing Up Baby
Dec. 14 – Room for One More
Dec. 15 – Houseboat
Dec. 16 – Indiscrete
Dec. 17 – The Philadelphia Story
Dec. 18 – Monkey Business
Dec. 19 – Charade
Dec. 20 – Penny Serenade
I generally try not to duplicate films from the year before. NxNW is taking Another year off, as I recently saw a projection of it on a 50 foot screen and don’t want it to compete with itself. I’m fine with that. ‘Room for One More’ will be new to me. Among the rest are a balance of black-and-white vs Technicolor; serious vs frivolous. There are many different Carys. It’s best to remember them all.
Feel free to play along at home.
And thanks, Cary.
